how to build aquaponics systems - What Is an Aquaponics System and How to Build It?

Aquaponics systems are a way of growing a garden inexpensively and naturally with symbiotic relationships. Essentially, an aquaponic system combines hydroponics and aquaculture. Growing plants in water is hydroponics. Aquaculture is pairing cohabitating species in an underwater habitat, such as a fish tank. The combination of the two allows both the fish and the plants to benefit from cohabitation.

Obviously, humans need oxygen for breathing, while they exhale carbon dioxide. Whereas, plant life needs to take in carbon dioxide and expel oxygen. This is a perfect example of a symbiotic relationship. Each organism must have something that the other must get rid of. They are both better off for being in the same habitat. This simple equation explains how both the fish and the plants can benefit from cohabitation in aquaponics.

An example of aquaculture is keeping fish in a tank like an aquarium. Nitrates, ammonia, and minerals are given off by the fish due to natural life processes. Another organism that gives off substances due to life processes is algae. Algae are small plants that can use the substances given off by the fish to help contribute to their own survival. By combining fish and plants, hydroponics and aquaculture, each gets all the nutrients they need to live from the other. So, how do you go about creating your aquaponic systems?

First, let's take a second to understand why this is so important. Gardening with aquaponics grows plants without creating pollution. Industrial farms create a lot of waste and have a negative effect on nature and the environment of our one and only Earth. Food from the grocery store will inevitably contain pesticides and toxins to which your family will be exposed. Fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals are now known to cause many diseases. When you grow it yourself, you have total control over your family's exposure to potentially dangerous chemicals.

Not to mention, there may be many economical benefits as well. An aquaponic system is an inexpensive manner in which to feed your family. Fresh vegetables and fruits are often quite expensive at the grocery store; and they may lack freshness and quality. In addition, financial unrest all over the globe continues to increase food expenses for families. If you and your family run out of food or money, you may have an available supply, via aquaponics.

To start your aquaponic systems out right you may need some help from an expert. It is not recommended that you set out to do this all by yourself without any guidance whatsoever. A simple aquaponics plan for designing and creating your system is what you need. Of course, you could pay landscape designers a fortune to do this for you, but this is also not recommended. If only there was a DIY aquaponics guide to help you build your system and get it started. Your step by step instructional guide to the process is "Aquaponics 4 You".
