What fish may be used?

Just about any type of fish may be used in the aquaponic gardening system. However, do check with the agriculture department or with the fish and wildlife department in your state to know exactly what types of fish are allowed in home tanks.

I live in Florida. I checked with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation and Commission website. There is a list of approved and disapproved fishes. For personal home use pure blue tilapia (not hybrids), Malaysian prawn, and native Florida crayfish may be used for personal use without permission or permits.
